Check Processing Bureau

The Check Processing Bureau has been repeatedly reported to the Better Business Bureau for illegal and unethical debt collection practices. Claiming to serve Metropolitan New York City, reports have circulated that agents of the company send out letters to unsuspecting recipients, claiming that the recipients have written a bad check, and threatening them with arrest and prosecution if they do not remit money. The letters apparently use the official sounding name of "Check Processing Bureau Enforcement Division. The New York Attorney General's office has received many complaints about this, as has the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). However, if the Attorney General's Office is anything like that of Nevada's, little will be done to stop the illegal debt collecting practice as they continue to solicit and scam consumers with phony checks and charges. Nevada's Attorney General Office never did anything more than send out letters asking an Ebay scam company to stop doing business.

Consumers had better beware of this unscrupulous scam activity when they receive a letter stating they wrote a check for hundreds of dollars, and they'd better pay. Check Processing has even been reported to be calling people and demanding payment. But when people examine the evidence, they find little to support the claims. Checks of almost $200 are reported to have been written to Pizza parlors, although no proof is ever presented to the consumer. One consumer claimed to receive a letter about a bad check she had written - but in her maiden name - something that was impossible. The fraudulent letters apparently make claims for bad checks that don't exist. But the scamsters continue to threaten consumers with arrest and jail.

While the bureau continues to operate it's fraudulent collection activities, it continues to receive income from phony scams on new consumers who worry about being arrested and going to court. Rather than contact a lawyer, they send payment in the form of a check, or call and pay over the phone, giving the operators more financial information that they can use.
